WC board accepts sharing draft

Plans for a whole grade sharing agreement between Webster City Schools and Northeast Hamilton took a step forward Tuesday evening.

The Webster City Community School District Board of Directors approved a proposed form of sharing that will presented at a public hearing. A hearing has not yet been set. Superintendent Mike Sherwood said the hearing will likely be held in May.

The drafted agreement calls for a three-year term beginning on July 1, 2015 and ending June 30, 2018 which includes students in grades seven through 12 from Northeast Hamilton attending Webster City schools. Using current enrollment data, Sherwood said the Webster City district will host about 69 students from NEH. The agreement also allows those NEH students to participate in extracurricular activities.

Some business remains to be settled. Sherwood said tuition costs for the students have yet to be determined. He also said NEH is reviewing the drafted agreement. No action on the whole grade sharing agreement will be taken until a public meeting is held.

In other business, the board approved a superintendent sharing agreement with NEH as their superintendent, Larry Frakes, steps down.

Under the agreement, Sherwood will spend 20 percent of his time working for the NEH district and the remainder with the Webster City district. The two-year contract, will begin on July 1.

The next Webster City school board meeting is scheduled for April 28 at 6 p.m. in the School Administration Office Board Room.
