Lynx blanked by Clear Lake on courts

CLEAR LAKE – The Webster City boys’ tennis team didn’t just phone it in despite the weather and opponent, but the Lynx were over-powered here yesterday afternoon.

Clear Lake lost no more than four games in any of the nine matches and cruised to the 9-0 victory. WCHS dropped to 1-1 in duals on the season.

“The boys battled hard, but Clear Lake is a good team made up of a nice mix of new and returning players,” WCHS head coach Matt Manson said. “It would have been real easy for our players to give up because of the weather or playing a good team, but they didn’t. I was proud of how they battled deep into most games.”

Dakon Bergquist put up the best fight in his No. 4 singles match before falling 10-4 to Jacob Peterson.

WCHS will return to its home courts on Thursday to face Grundy Center in a rare girls’/boys’ doubleheader. Play will get underway at 4:30 p.m.
