Bill Bertran, 64, Webster City
Bill Duane Bertran, the son of Charles and Thelma (Hill) Bertran was born May 26, 1949 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His family moved to Eagle Grove, IA in 1952 where is parents originally resided. They later moved to Webster City where he received his education from the Webster City High School graduating in 1967.
After graduation he moved to Anaheim, CA where he had a job with World Wide Erectors. He married Julie Ulicki from Fort Dodge in 1969 and had two children William and Jodi. They returned to the Webster City area and he began working for the Union Pacific Railroad formerly known as Chicago Northwestern. The couple later divorced. In 1981 Bill married Marcy Erickson from Eagle Grove. They had two children Cody and Britne.
Bill had many hobbies throughout the years. The things he enjoyed most were spending time with his family, fishing with his sons, gardening, hunting, “tinkering” in his garage, playing darts, being the pinball wizard, and enjoying nature. Many people will remember him as the super fan at Nokomis Park Sunday night softball league and avid wrestling fan.
After a 10 year battle with cancer, Bill passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 19, 2014. He was blessed to be under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Bill chose to donate his body to Science Care for cancer research. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, his sister Teresa, and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marcy; his four children and 11 grandchildren Bill (Colette) Maddie, Marie Bertran; Jodi (Lance Messerly) Bryce Bertran, Hayden, Lucas Messerly; Cody (Katie) Dawson, Coyce Bertran; and Britne (Jason Burney) Jayde and Carson Bertran, Gage and Mackenzie Burney. Brother Eldon (Penny) Bertran and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, May 4th at Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg, IA at 4pm. Memorials to the family will be donated to MAC Life or Care Initiatives Hospice.
