Llamas are back

The Heartland Llama Show returns the Hamilton County Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday for a variety of youth and open classes.

At least 175 head of llama and mini-llamas are expected to be shown according to organizers. Last year, the show had exhibitors from seven states, including Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin. Judges for the event are from Wisconsin and Indiana.

Classes begin each day at 8:30 a.m. Saturday classes include walking fiber, performance events such as the obstacle course, companion and trail pack, along with showmanship, according to organizers. Sunday will bring halter classes.

There is no admission charge and area residents are welcome to tour the barns to see the llamas in their pens during the show.
