TRACK: Gold-silver in high jump, 100; bronze for Lynx boys
POCAHONTAS – One-two finishes in the high jump and 100-meter dash highlighted a strong night of performances for the Webster City boys’ track team at Friday’s Pocahontas Relays.
The Lynx won four events and medaled in 11 overall in Class A. They accumulated 124 points to finish third behind class champion Algona (173) and runner-up Spencer (130).
Cal Zahn and Fernando Martinez secured the top two spots in the high jump. Zahn cleared 6 feet, 2 inches, well ahead of Martinez, who went out at 5-6.
Zahn played the supporting role in the 100 though. He took the silver in 11.44 seconds behind teammate and gold medalist Cooper Jaycox, who leaned across in 11.42.
Both sprinters were on the first-place 4×100 relay (44.87), alongside Tanner Hoveland and Cory Keenan.
Hoveland crossed the finish line first in the 110 high hurdles (15.43).
Long jumpers Payton Kannuan (17-6 1/2) and Dylan Fielder (17-0) placed second and third, respectively.
The 4×800 (8:47.42) was second, while the 4×200 (1:38.36) and shuttle hurdle (1:01.11) relays were third.
