‘Keys to Success’ is ball theme
Local residents will have the opportunity to help give students the “Keys to Success” Saturday night as the annual St. Thomas Aquinas Ball is presented at the parish center.
In past years, several couples have served as ball chairmen, but this year, the event is being planned by a large committee of parents, school alumni, alumni families and parish families. Committee members have been busy this week with last minute details and getting ready for the big night.
“We’ve got a great committee and they are helping out with everything from the tickets and cash donations to the silent auction items and decorations,” said one of the committee members, Heidi Tesdahl.
She said the ball will follow the same format as in previous years with dinner followed by silent and live auctions. The evening will include cocktails and dinner, catered by Leons and the Second Street Emporium. Desserts will be provided by Fiscella’s Fine Baked Goods. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m.
About 30 items will be featured on the live auction while those attending can choose from more than 100 different silent auction items. Live auction items include baskets assembled by the various school classes, artwork by the students along with merchandise donated by area businesses and individuals.
The entertainment will be provided by Deuces Wild, dueling pianos. Their performance is sponsored by Tim and Kathy Finucan.
“The entertainment is sure to be a lot of fun,” Tesdahl said.
A raffle is also being held Saturday night. This year, the grand prize winner, who will be named at about 10:30 p.m., can choose either $10,000 in cash or a Kubota RTV400 Utility Vehicle from Casady Bros. Implement. Second prize is a 60-inch LG LED 3D Smart TV and a Blu-Ray player from Home Appliance. The third place winner will take home $1,000 in Scrip gift cards. Raffle tickets are $50 each or $125 for three, according to Tesdahl.
Tickets for the dinner and dance are still available and may be purchased at the school office, 624 Dubuque St., or call 832-1346. Admission is $60 per person.
An open house/auction preview event will be held Friday night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Both raffle tickets and dance tickets will be available at that event.
The St. Thomas Ball is the major fund raising event for the elementary school.
