TRACK: Lynx, Hawks and Trojans to take 18 events to state
WEBSTER CITY – Hamilton Country track and field programs will send a combined 18 events to the state meet this week.
Automatic qualifiers were learned last Thursday during State Qualifying meets across the state. Additional at-large entrants were announced Friday and Saturday.
The Webster City girls’ team will head to Drake Stadium in Des Moines with five events. Allie Flaws will be in the Class 3A 100- and 200-meter dash, as well as the 4×100 relay where she’ll be joined by Carrie Gerdes, Morgan Gourley and Hannah Harfst.
Gerdes will take part in the long jump, and Kaylee Schnathorst will be a part of the shot put field
The Lynx boys’ program added three events after Cal Zahn automatically qualified in the high jump. Cooper Jaycox was added to the 100 field, as were the shuttle hurdle (Tanner Hoveland, Dylan Fielder, Fernando Martinez, Tanner Hild) and 4×100 (Hoveland, Jaycox, Zahn and Corey Keenan) relays.
Devin Howard will attempt to win two more medals in the 2A 100 and 200, and he’ll also run on the Hawks’ qualifying 1,600 medley relay alongside Ross Enderson, Zach Zoske and Devon Fisher.
Fisher, Titan Johnson, Jacob Ratzke and Caleb Olson will run in the 4×800.
Kali Lucas in the long jump, Alyssa Hegland in the high jump and the Hawk girls’ 4×800 (Kayla Monthei, Allyson Ervin, Kayla Lucas, Meghan Fisher) will all compete as well.
The Trojan boys’ squad received at-large berths in the 1A 4×400 (Nick Jeffers, Kyle Pruismann, Logan Seiser, Tyler Smith) and 1,600 medley (Tristan Nicholson, Seiser, Jeffers, Smith) relays.
The state meet will get underway Thursday morning.
