SOCCER: Lee goal not enough for WCHS girls on pitch
WEBSTER CITY – Iowa Falls-Alden jumped on the board first and then rode a strong showing from goalkeeper Korrie Robbins in its victory over Webster City Friday evening at Lynx Field.
It was a frustrating loss for WCHS (4-7), which was unable to push a shot past Robbins until it was too late in a 2-1 loss.
“It was a pretty gut-wrenching, heartbreaking game for the team and myself,” WCHS head coach Paul Baedke said. “We had three to four quality shots that (Robbins) made excellent saves on.”
IF-A (3-7) scored in the 26th and 72nd minutes to build a 2-0 lead. The Lynx avoided the shutout on a goal from Jesse Lee off a Molly Gilbert free-kick assist with under two minutes remaining.
WCHS keeper Maia Jaycox came up with seven saves.
The Lynx will be back at home this evening against Aplington-Parkersburg. Play will get underway at 5:30 p.m.
