GOLF: Harfst shoots 90, WCHS girls post 403 at regional
WAVERLY – The Webster City girls’ golf team shot a 403 and placed seventh yesterday at the Waverly Municipal Golf Course during the Class 4A Region 3 final.
Regional champion Cedar Rapids Xavier (332) and runner-up Charles City (348) advanced to the state tournament next week at the Ames Golf and Country Club.
The top five individuals also advanced. Charles City’s Megan Joerger shot a 77 to finish at the top of the leaderboard. She won the tiebreaker over runner-up Bailee Wallace of Waverly-Shell Rock and Maddie Bertsch of Cedar Rapids Xavier, who also shot 77.
Fourth went to Xavier’s Grace Winker (80). Grinnell’s Sarah Frischmeyer (82) was fifth.
Hannah Harfst played her best round of the season for the Lynx en route to a 90. Her round included a 42 on the front nine.
Megan Gilbert and Shannon Swon both shot 101 for WCHS, and Taylor Elliott finished off the scoring with a 111. Taylor Pruismann also took part; she shot a 116.
