Halko goes distance, Lynx top Tigers
CARROLL – This is exactly the start the Webster City baseball team needed.
Buoyed by a complete-game pitching gem from junior right-hander Daniel Halko, the Lynx picked up a key non-conference road win over Carroll, 7-5, and improved to 2-0 last night.
Halko surrendered just three hits and struck out seven. He also issued seven walks.
“Daniel has got good mechanics and he was living downstairs,” WCHS head coach Troy Smock said. “He knows he needs to get the walks down to get better, but he was really good for a first start.”
WCHS blasted 10 hits. The four seniors in the lineup – Trey Tesdahl, Ben Mossman, Dylan Fielder and Doug Stoakes – accounted for six of the hits and combined to drive in five runs.
Fielder had the team’s only extra-base hit – a double – and he collected three RBIs.
“Those four seniors are leading the younger kids,” Smock. “Right now they’re really doing a good job.”
