Jewell to host events
JEWELL – Main Street in downtown Jewell will be closed Friday night as the community hosts the 19th annual Main Street Barbecue. The event kicks off a weekend of activities, all part of Jewell Jubilee.
Jewell’s own Top Shelf Grilling will be barbecuing beef, pork and turkey on site. The Jewell Boy Scouts will help and will be collecting cans. Serving will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Organizers said the all-you-can-eat menu will also include a drink, baked beans and potato salad. Tickets, available at Family Pharmacy, First American Bank or at the barbecue, are $8 for adults and $3 for children 6 to 12. There is no charge for those younger than 6. The event is sponsored by the Jewell Area Development Enterprise.
Also Friday night, the Jewell Lions Club will host the dessert and ice cream social from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. downtown.
The evening will also include a 5K fun run/walk with registration at near the Post Office. That activity begins at 6 p.m. A kids fun run begins at 6:30 p.m. A craft and bake sale is scheduled for the Jewell United Church of Christ. Fireworks will cap the evening beginning at 10 p.m.
The annual parade will be held down Main Street Saturday at 10 a.m. and the Lions Club will host a lunch starting at 11 a.m.
