SH softball goes on attack, rips CMB 10-2

JEWELL – The South Hamilton softball team continued to reel off hits at a torrid pace last night, leading to another Heart of Iowa Conference victory at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex.

Eight girls notched at least one hit and the Hawks put CMB away with five runs in the sixth inning in a 10-2 victory.

“We’re just doing a nice job of getting on base right now,” South Hamilton head coach Laura Read said. “We’re focusing and attacking the strike zone.”

Kali Lucas drove in two runs with a single in the sixth; she collected three hits and three RBIs.

Carly Swenson also plated a run in the sixth with a double down the left-field line.

Alyssa Hegland added two doubles in the win and Kayla Lucas notched a triple, single and RBI.

Ady Wintermote rattled off three singles and plated a run. The freshman also picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle after allowing CMB (5-6, 4-4 HOIC) just two hits. She struck out two against no walks.

“I really like how (Wintermote) sets the pace of the game,” Read said. “She might not strike out a lot of batters, but she’s not going to walk them either.”

South Hamilton (5-7, 4-4 HOIC) will take part in the Urbandale tournament on Friday. The Hawks will face Urbandale and then Iowa City West.
