McCoy just misses no-no, WCHS softball rolls
CLEAR LAKE – Mikaleh McCoy was a little wild inside the pitcher’s circle here last night, but when she needed to come up with the key strikes she delivered.
The Webster City junior pitcher tossed a one-hit shutout and also went 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate to help the Lynx blank North Central Conference foe Clear Lake, 5-0.
McCoy struck out nine, but walked four and hit four Lion batters. Her no-hitter was broken up on a seventh-inning single to right field by Michaela Niles.
“(Clear Lake) had runners on, but we were able to get out of innings without them scoring. It was good to see the girls play solid defense for 21 outs,” WCHS head coach Jess Howard said.
WCHS (11-8, 7-2 NCC) rattled off six hits. Catie Boyd was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. Kaylee Schnathorst delivered a run-scoring hit; Allie Flaws and Kenady Highland both singled.
Reagan Brackey took the loss for Clear Lake (1-13, 1-10 NCC).
The Lynx will make the trip to Algona tonight to take on the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m.
