Defending state champ, No. 2 Lions blank Lynx

CLEAR LAKE – Defending Class 3A state champion and No. 2-ranked Clear Lake stayed unbeaten in North Central Conference play last night, but it wasn’t exactly easy.

The Lions (15-2, 6-0 NCC) had one big inning – a four-run fourth – and that was all they needed to top Webster City, 5-0.

WCHS pitchers Seth Crouthamel and Cole Reigelsberger held the Lions to just six hits. Crouthamel accepted the loss.

The Lynx (5-7, 2-5 NCC) smacked five hits off Lions’ hurler Brandon Tofte. Trey Tesdahl laced two singles; Doug Stoakes, Alec Fuhs and Dylan Fielder all added base knocks.

“I’m happy with the way we approached hitting (last night),” WCHS head coach Troy Smock said. “We hit some balls really hard, but right at them. They’re outstanding defensively like you would expect the defending state champion to be.”

WCHS will go out of conference to take on Boone on the road this evening at 7:30 p.m.
