Charlene Fox, 85, Jewell
Charlene Fox, age 85, a long time Jewell resident, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Bethany Life Communities in Story City, Iowa. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell; burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to service time on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell, Bethany Life Foundation, Riverside Bible Camp both in Story City or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs. Charlene Betty Fox was born November 22, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to Ona Elmer and Nellie Josephine (Larson) Fox. The family came to the Jewell area in 1941. Charlene was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Charlene graduated from Randall Consolidated School in 1947 as Class Valedictorian. She attended Iowa State College and received a BS and MS in Home Economics Education. Charlene began teaching in 1950 in Hansell, and then in Olin, Rolfe, Albert City-Truesdale, joining the Council Bluffs Community Schools in 1968 and retiring in 1994. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, Pi Chapter (Sapphire Sister) serving as a past state president. Charlene was also a member of ISRVP and the National Education Association Life Member. She enjoyed being a member of Sons of Norway (Kong Sverre 482) and J.A.D.E. When in Council Bluffs she was very active in many organizations including, serving as Mercy Hospital Allegiant Health Hospice Volunteer, Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation, Inc., and Council Bluffs Education Association.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by cousins.
