Cleanup Day set

The annual county-wide service project Boone River Cleanup is planning on great weather to scrub clean portions of the Boone River this Saturday.

The cleanup events have been going on for several years. The Boone River is rated by many as one of the best paddling rivers in the state. Organizers said the volunteers help increase the beauty of the river and tourism by removing trash and metal from the water and river bed. The project is coordinated by ISU Extension and Outreach, Hamilton County, the City of Webster City and Hamilton County Conservation.

Volunteers are to check in at Briggs Woods Shelter No. 1 at 7 a.m. Shuttle service is provided and canoes are given on a first come first serve bases. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own canoe if possible. Sponsors provide lunch and beverages are available.

The Boone River Clean-up Committee has received support from local entities including: The Trash Man, Webster City Custom Meats, Hamilton County, Hamilton County Solid Waste Transfer Station, Webster City Rotary, Hotel Motel Tax, Hy Vee, LL Bean, American Rivers organization, Dance Connection, and Fareway.
