Football: SH 6-4, 1A playoff qualifier
Aug. 30, 2013: Ullestad opened his senior football campaign in style with a touchdown reception and interception in South Hamilton’s 22-0 non-district win over rival Roland-Story.
Sept. 27, 2013: Ullestad vaulted to the top of the Class 1A interceptions list with three picks in a 45-22 thumping of West Fork. He also caught a 46-yard TD pass.
Oct. 4, 2013: South Hamilton thumped Aplington-Parkersburg, 43-6, and Ullestad had himself a game. He caught four passes for 100 yards and a score and he also picked off a pass.
Oct. 18, 2013: An 87-yard interception return for a TD highlighted the night for Ullestad, as South Hamilton clinched a spot in the 1A playoffs with a 64-8 beat down of Eagle Grove.
Oct. 30, 2013: In his final prep football game, Ullestad made a TD catch and collected his ninth INT of the season in the Hawks’ 46-20 loss to South Winneshiek in the 1A playoffs.
November, 2013: Ullestad was named an all-district and 1A second-team all-state defensive back.
Basketball: SH 21-4, 16-2 HOIC
Dec. 13, 2013: Ullestad notched his first big scoring night of the basketball season with 23 points in an 83-34 whipping of Colfax-Mingo.
Feb. 6, 2014: Heat check time … Ullestad buried eight triples and scored a season-high 24 points, as South Hamilton reeled off its ninth straight win, 75-69, over CMB.
Feb. 11, 2014: South Hamilton avenged an earlier loss to North Polk, 72-64. Ullestad played a pivotal role with 18 points.
Feb. 21, 2014: The Hawks opened Class 2A district play by steamrolling Eagle Grove, 90-49. They connected on 14 3-pointers, five coming from Ullestad en route to 21 points.
March 3, 2014: It was certainly Ullestad’s biggest basket, as he drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 45 seconds left in overtime to put South Hamilton up 54-50, and the Hawks went on to stun St. Edmond, 58-53, to earn a spot in the 2A state tournament for the first time since 1991. Ullestad hit four 3s in the game and scored 18 points.
Golf: SH HOIC champ, 2A state champ
April 21, 2014: Ullestad shot a 3-under-par 69 to win the West Marshall Invite at Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center.
April 26, 2014: He followed it up by carding a 74 to win the Lake Panorama Invite crown.
May 5, 2014: Ullestad wasn’t anywhere near his best, but still shot a 79 to place eighth and help South Hamilton claim the HOIC team crown at the Tournament Club of Iowa.
May 16, 2014: And now we heat up … Ullestad’s even-par 72 at his home Jewell Golf and Country Club was good enough for second, as the Hawks rolled to a Class 2A sectional title.
May 23, 2014: Ullestad 1, Fox Ridge Golf Course 0 … The senior blistered the track for a 2A district-winning score of 4-under 68.
May 30, 2014: Ullestad put himself in position to become an individual state champion with a 2-under 70 to take a five-shot lead after Day 1 of the 2A state meet at Spring Valley Golf Course in Livermore.
May 31, 2014: A 2-over 74 was more than good enough, as Ullestad became the first boys’ golfer in school history to win an individual state crown. His 144 total bested the field by five shots, as he led the Hawks to their first team title as well.
June 8, 2014: A given – Ullestad was named a 2A first-team all-state golfer.
