A Year’s Worth Of Highlights

Volleyball: WCHS 24-10 overall, 8-1 NCC

Sept. 3, 2013: Schnathorst opened her senior campaign in style, smashing 13 kills from her outside hitter position in 2-0 wins over North Polk and Ballard.

Sept. 12, 2013: WCHS opened up North Central Conference play with a 3-0 sweep of Fort Dodge St. Edmond. Schnathorst was the architect with 12 kills and 13 digs.

Sept. 17, 2013: Knocking off league rival Humboldt, 3-0, was a key step towards an NCC title and Schnathorst had her full court arsenal on display with nine kills, 11 digs and five service aces.

Sept. 24, 2013: WCHS lost its only conference match – a 3-1 setback at Iowa Falls-Alden. It would have been worse had Schnathorst not shown up; she was everywhere with 16 kills and 21 digs.

Oct. 3, 2013: Winning at Algona is never easy and oftentimes impossible. But the Lynx got it done, 3-2, behind 19 kills and 21 digs from their senior star.

Oct. 22, 2013: The Lynx second conference championship in three years came following a 3-0 thumping of Clear Lake. In her final regular season home match, Schnathorst delivered 20 kills and 14 digs.

Oct. 31, 2013: Her volleyball career came to an end with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Boone in a Class 4A regional match. Schnathorst said goodbye with 19 kills and 23 digs.

November, 2013: The final pieces to a brilliant volleyball career came into place. Schnathorst earned her fourth all-NCC accolade, including her third consecutive unanimous first-team award. She was also named to the 4A all-West District team and was a 4A all-state honorable mention pick.

Track and Field

May 12, 2014: Schnathorst claimed NCC gold in the shot put with a meet-best throw of 37 feet, 31?4 inches.

May 15, 2014: Sitting in second place heading into the final round, Schnathorst bagged a Class 3A State Qualifying Meet title in the shot put with a new personal-best throw of 37 feet, 63?4 inches.

May 24, 2014: Schnathorst ended her prep track and field career at the state meet. She placed 13th in the Class 3A field with a top throw of 35-11.

Softball: WCHS 17-18 overall, 13-5 NCC

May 28, 2014: Schnathorst opened the NCC season by going 2-for-4 and stealing three bases in a 12-4 win over Clear Lake.

June 5, 2014: The walk-off … Schnathorst blasted a home run to push WCHS past Algona, 7-6.

June 9, 2014: A 3-for-4 effort at the plate by Schnathorst included a dinger and three RBIs in the Lynx 6-5 win over Eagle Grove.

June 24, 2014: This time it was a grand slam … Schnathorst’s shot cleared the bases and helped the Lynx topple Humboldt, 7-6.

July 10, 2014: In her final prep game, Schnathorst did what she does best – steal bases and score runs. She had two thefts and touched the plate twice in a 12-2 Class 4A regional loss to Charles City.

July 21, 2014: Fittingly, Schnathorst capped her softball career with a fourth consecutive first-team all-NCC honor. It was her fifth all-NCC award in all.
