Arts festival planned for Fort Dodge
FORT DODGE – “Desiring the Arts Festival 2014” is planned for Fort Dodge Aug. 21 through 23, with a variety of performers and artists scheduled to appear.
The event will be held at McSweeney’s School of Performing Arts, 1633 North 29th St., Fort Dodge. Tickets are $20 for adults or $10 for students in advance or $25 and $15 at the door. Tickets are good for all three days and may be purchased in advance from American Family Insurance Michael Buhr’s Agency, 812 North 15th St., Fort Dodge.
The program on Aug. 21, which begins at 7 p.m., will feature Broadway hits, operatic selections, Vietnamese folk and classical songs, cello works and jazz standards. Fashion, art and photography exhibits will also be on display.
On Aug. 22, the 7 p.m. presentation will include original works, jazz standards, popular music, rock songs and the displays of fashion, art and photography.
The last day will feature master classes and workshops for singing, acting, fashion design, photography and art. A signup sheet will be provided the first two days of the festival for anyone who would like to participate in any of the masterclasses and workshops. Anyone with a ticket is welcome to attend.
Performers and artists scheduled to attend are Sean Buhr, a singer and actor from New York City, originally from Fort Dodge; Bich Van, a singer and actress from Los Angeles; Michelle Havlik-Jergens, pianist from Webster City; Katy Bird, fashion designer from Kansas City, originally from Fort Dodge; Vanessa Russell, an artist from Minneapolis, originally from Fort Dodge; Alex Trevino, bassist from Boston; Leah McIntire-Barnett. cellist and singer from Des Moines; Devon Black, an artist from Des Moines, originally from Fort Dodge; and Patrick Buhr, a drummer from Ames, also originally from Fort Dodge. Other artists and performers will be announced later.
