Hawks collect six all-conference softball accolades
WEBSTER CITY – South Hamilton’s steady climb up the Heart of Iowa Conference softball ladder this season paid dividends in the form of a slew of postseason honors.
Six Hawks were named all-conference after the team put together a 15-15 season, including an 11-6 mark in the HOIC – good enough for third place behind league champion Prairie City-Monroe and runner-up Greene County.
Junior outfielder Carly Swenson was tagged as a first team member. Freshman pitcher Ady Wintermote, sophomore catcher Alyssa Hegland and junior outfielder Kayla Lucas earned second-team status. Junior outfielder Kenzie Busch and junior shortstop Kali Lucas were honorable mention picks.
Swenson hit at a .337 clip during the campaign and led South Hamilton in home runs (three) and RBIs (18). Lucas hit a team-best .350; she drove in 10 runs and scored 24 times herself.
Wintermote was valuable in the pitcher’s circle and also at the plate. She cranked out a .333 batting average with one dinger and 11 RBIs, and she also smacked five doubles. The rookie hurler put together a 13-9 record with a 1.87 ERA; she struck out 80 batters and walked just nine.
Hegland also hit .333 and plated 17 runs out of the clean-up spot in the order. She laced a team-best nine doubles.
Kali Lucas and Busch hit .325 and .287, respectively.
