Two seats to go

Only two of the 300 seats at the Webster Theater have yet to be adopted.

The Help Entertain and Restore Organization’s fundraising campaign began soon after they began working to reopen the theater. Now that the campaign is nearing its end, Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Deb Brown said she and other HERO members are extremely excited.

“We didn’t imagine it would be this much fun or that the community would come out in droves to support the Webster Theater,” Brown said. “It’s probably been one of the best grassroots fundraising committees that I’ve ever volunteered on.”

The remaining seats can be adopted for $300 each. Brown said plaques for the seats will made by Gilbert Jewelers in Webster City as soon as the last couple are sold.

HERO is not ending its fundraising efforts with the completion of the seat adoption campaign. The group is selling buckets, yellow with the HERO logo on the side, for $60 each. The “bottomless” buckets can be used to obtain popcorn at theater showings for up to a year after it reopens. Brown said about 50 buckets are still available for purchase.

Brown said HERO will also gladly accept any general donations that individuals, groups or businesses would like to give. As a non-profit organization, HERO will continue to work on the theater even after it reopens. Brown said they could use continued donations for maintenance needs and new, interesting projects.

Those unable to make monetary donations can give their time to help the theater. Brown said HERO is seeking help with projects such as cleaning seats and putting plaques on chairs.

“There’s plenty of room for people to volunteer,” Brown said.
