Legion to host scholarship program

To the Editor:

Dear Citizens of Webster City,

The American Legion has long stoon on the tradition of four pillars: Veterans affairs and rehabilitation; national security; Americanism; and children and youth. The commitment to our children and youth shows in your local American Legion Post No. 191, as they prepare our students to become good citizens.

What better way to get them involved in that process than to offer them scholarships to learn about the U.S. Constitution while honing their public speaking skills.

Local American Legion Post No. 191 is willing to conduct the High School Oratorical Scholarship Program – “A Constitutional Speech Contest” on Nov. 19. The winner will receive $50 with the chance for much, much more as they advance through the county, district, area and state level competitions.

To participate, you must contact Marvin Carr at 297-3179 no later than Oct. 24, so they can properly prepare for the contest and secure judges.

Complete contest guidelines are available at American Legion Post No. 191 or online at www.ialegion.org or by calling Carr at the above number.
