Rick Ratzke, 54, rural Dows
Rick Ratzke, 54, rural Dows, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Rick was diagnosed with peripheral t-cell lymphoma in early June. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williams. Per Rick’s wishes, his body was cremated. Burial will be at St. Mary’s cemetery in rural Williams following the service. No visitation will be held. The Surls Funeral Home of Williams is in charge of arrangements.
Rick was born on November 27, 1959, in Iowa Falls to Avery and Jeanette (Crilly) Ratzke. He was raised in Williams and was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williams. He was educated in the Northeast Hamilton Schools and graduated in 1978.
Rick was united in marriage with Lori (Anderson) Ratzke on April 23, 1994, at Kanawha Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm in rural Dows where he raised cattle and hogs and each year planted a huge garden, which he carefully tended. Rick and Lori were blessed with three beautiful children: Jacob, Taylor and Ethan. Rick would tell you that his family was his greatest accomplishment in life.
Rick enjoyed racing enduro and stock cars and participated at local tracks for twelve years before retiring in 1996. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He took pride in sharing his skills with his kids. Rick was a quiet man with a very laid back and relaxed personality who preferred the simple things in life. He enjoyed sitting around with friends and sharing a story and a joke or two.
Rick is survived by his wife, Lori; his sons, Jacob and Ethan; his daughter, Taylor, all at home; his parents, Avery and Jeanette Ratzke; brother Michael (Patty) Ratzke of Williams; sister Regina (Terry) Daniels of Webster City; mother-in-law Sharon Anderson of Kanawha; brothers-in-law Andy (Amy) Anderson and Jon (Jen) Anderson all of Reinbeck; several nieces and nephews and many aunts, uncles and friends.
