Hells Angel and cop co-author book

BADGER – Authors Pat Matter and Chris Omodt will hold a book signing from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 6 at Knuckleheads in Badger.

Matter, a former member of the Fort Dodge Grim Reapers who went on to lead the Minneapolis Hells Angels, and Omodt, one of the men who helped send him to prison, have co-authored “Breaking the Code: A True Story by a Hells Angel and the Cop Who Pursued Him.”

The book reached No. 1 on Amazon’s list of bestselling law biographies when it was released earlier this month.

In “Breaking the Code,” Matter recounts details of a fatal 1974 shooting in downtown Fort Dodge. According to Matter, he and Rick Wingerson were leaving a bar to find one of Matter’s brothers when they encountered Ronald and Donald Chada. An exchange of gunfire left Wingerson dead in the street.

Omodt is a retired Hennepin County, Minnesota, detective who spent years investigating Matter and building a criminal case against him. Eventually, the two became close friends.
