Ready to ride

The Tour de Webster Bicycle Race and Ride returns for its 25th year on Sunday.

Webster City Recreation and Public Grounds Director Kent Harfst said dozens of bikers are expected to join in the event this weekend. The race and ride begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday. It begins and ends at the Iowa Central Community College Campus in Webster City.

“I’m really excited for the race this year,” Harfst said.

Participating bikers will have two routes to choose from. Both routes, one which is 29.2 miles and another which is 21.8 miles, will travel south of Webster City. The routes follow the scenery near Homer and Stratford. Both routes will be on hard-surfaced country roads.

Those interested can either pre-register for the event or register the day of the event before 12:30 p.m. Registration forms can be picked up at Fuller Hall Recreation Center in Webster City. The cost of registration is $23. Harfst said registered riders will receive a T-shirt, which he said looks great and commemorates the 25th anniversary of the event.
