Tom Halder, 87, Webster City

Tom Halder, 87, of Webster City, died Friday, August 29, 2014, at the Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center, with Rev. Stephen Meyer officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Clair “Tom” Louis Halder, son of Frederick and Anna Grimm Halder, was born August 19, 1927 in Spencer. He attended Palo Alto County Schools by Ruthven. He married Lillian Utley in Spencer. To this union three children were born. The couple later divorced. Tom moved to Webster City in the late 1960s, where he owned and operated the Holiday Station, the Derby Station and Tom Halder’s Mobil Service. On October 23, 1976, Tom married Mary Kathryn Lateer in Webster City. After his retirement in 1999, he was a part time assistant at Superwash. He was a resident of Southfield since October of 2005.

Tom is survived by his wife, Mary of Webster City; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Kimko Halder of Phoenix, AZ, Terry and Mary Jo Halder of Tucson, AZ; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Marty Duffy of Webster City; step children, Alicia and Bill Lateer-Huhn of Alexandria, KY and Amy Lateer of Webster City; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Jerome Halder of Webster City and sister, Mary Ann Truog of Emmetsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Fabian Halder, a brother in infancy, sister, Catherine Halder and a brother-in-law, Ulrich “Ole” Truog.

Tom was a past member of the Moose Family Center.
